Cake Information & Policies

For Specialty Cakes

When choosing “A Thyme To Taste” for special events such as engagement parties, bridal showers, birthdays, retirements, graduations, to name a few, a $50 non-refundable down payment is required to hold your date, and applied to your balance due.

Final payment is due 5 days before the event date.

For Weddings and Corporate Events

When choosing “A Thyme To Taste” for your wedding or corporate event, a $100 non-refundable down payment is required to hold your date, and applied to your balance due.

50% of your balance is due at the time you accept the proposal. The final balance is due 30 days prior to your event. If the final payment is not paid 30 days prior to the event date, the contract will cancel and you will forfeit the $100 non-refundable down payment and your 50% payment made at the time you accepted the proposal.

Cancellations made 30 days prior to the event will be subject to your forfeiture of the $100 non-refundable down payment and 50% of the payment made at the time you accepted the proposal.

No cancellations or reductions in order size will be accepted within 30 days of the event date. (Additions and changes to details accepted up to 15 days prior to the event.) Cancellations within 30 days but prior to 15 days of the event date are subject to a penalty of 50% of the final balance due in addition to the outlined guidelines above. Cancellations within 15 days of the event date require a 100% payment of the contract.

Hardware Rental & Deposit:

Cake hardware is very expensive and we need to insure its return.

Examples of cake hardware are:

• Cake Plates
• Pillars
• Fountains
• Lighting
• Stainless Steel Support System
• Various Stands

Fountains, lighting, stainless steel support systems, and various other stands incur rental fees, which are outlined in the contract. Cake plates and pillars used to support the actual cake are covered in the deposit and not subject to rental fees. A separate deposit is held for the return of the cake hardware.

The deposit is fully refundable when the hardware is returned. It must be returned no later than 2 days following the event. 10 days prior to the event date, a person will be designated to bring back the cake hardware. We will ask you for this persons name and contact information.

All cake hardware must be clean, not broken, or damaged for a refund of the deposit.

Delivery & Set-up

Delivery and set-up are available in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. We deliver all of our products. There will be no pick-up available. This is for your convenience and to ensure that cakes, pastries, and desserts arrive in top form and are set-up according to specifications.

Deliveries will be arranged between A Thyme To Taste and the venue. Outdoor weddings should be delivered as close to the reception as possible to avoid bugs & damage due to the elements.

A delivery & set-up fee will be charged and outlined in your contract. The fee is based on each individual event.

Contracts

Every event requires a contract and details all of the order information. A copy of the contract will be provided to all of our clients. If you need a copy of your contract for any reason, we can provide you a copy.

Tastings

We offer sample cakes for purchase at $15 each. Sample cakes consist of two tiers. Each tier will be made of your choices in cake flavoring, filling, and icing. (Icing has to be consistent for the entire cake. i.e. You cannot have one tier be butter cream and the other fondant.) The bottom tier is approximately 4 inches in size and the upper tier approximately 3 inches. Sample cakes must be ordered at least a week before the tasting.

Fresh Flowers

A Thyme To Taste would be happy to work with your florist if you would like your cake decorated with fresh flowers. We also have partner florists with whom you can work to choose flowers to match your décor and theme.
